Abstract

Bacteria effecting the vascular tissue of apparently healthy potato tubers (Solamim tuberosum L.) were studied in samples taken from storage bins in Osorno, Chile.
Out of 618 bacterial strains isolated from 240 potato tubers, with apparenty no symptoms of disease, 61 strains were pectinase producers related to Bacillus Cohn and Pseudomonas Migula. These genera were considered accidental an pathogenic and potentially soft rot inducers.
