Cultural translations of an Argentine weekly magazine of the 19th century
Main Article Content
Abstract
Between November 18, 1837, and April 21, 1838, the weekly magazine "Fashion" (La Moda) appeared every Saturday in Buenos Aires. Articles referring to customs and others of programming nature were published, establishing statements of aesthetic-political ideas. Within the former we could find original texts as well as re-editions of fragments of essays and articles shown in other publications, previously translated to Spanish. The purpose of our work is to characterize the translating practice -which in some cases is more complex since they are a translation of a former translation-, considering, on one hand, its nature of cultural mediation, and, on the other hand, its effect and importance on the aesthetic program of the weekly contributors.
