Abstract

Given that dialectology is more than the addition of individual descriptive studies, this article reports some of the findings in the study of the Spanish spoken in the city of Valdivia, based on a representative sample of semiformal interviews.
The results include aspects related to: 1) the phonological processes; 2) syntactic and lexico-semantic dialectal differenciation; 3) the different levels of discourse analysis and the interpretation of its underlined meaning; 4) sociolinguistic stratification and the speaker’s identity and world view.
