Abstract

The study of journals and magazines has received further treatment in Argentina in recent decades. Drawing from economic history, the approaches propose combining tools from the economy, cultural, and political history to enrich the analyses. In this study, we propose to address the journal La Ciudad Futura (LCF), linked to the leftist thought in the years of President Raúl Alfonsín (1983-1989), which featured some of the most renowned left-wing intellectuals. First, we elaborate on the profiles of the columnists, the editorial project, and the typology of the journal. Second, we analyze the debates around economic policy and the economy based on the changes that capitalism had been introducing since the 1970s. In the conclusions, we claim that the economic dimension introduced important tensions in a renewed left that was betting on a socialist democracy, motivating the discussion for a modernizing reformism to i sert the country into the new global dynamic.
