A Chiloe independence? The O’Higginist insurrection of 1826
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines an uprising that occurred in the province of Chiloé in May 1826, following the annexation of the territory to the Republic of Chile. It is argued that the uprising was driven by the discontent of dissatisfied military sectors and local elites with the existing governmental organization, rather than by opposition to republican values. These sought to influence the new political project, reflecting the complexity of the political dynamics of the time.
