Abstract

This work presents a community experience of valuing cultural heritage in Benito Juárez, Argentina, and its scope is analyzed in terms of “good  practices”.  Particularly,  the  experience arises as a result of the first participatory conference on local heritage, convened by an interdisciplinary research team that has been working in the area for more than a decade. From the meeting, the community began a collective process of heritage activation, focused on the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the city’s urban layout.

This article describes and analyzes the future of this complex process and seeks to make visible the social commitment assumed by the scientific team that, based on a participatory communication approach, proposes to challenge traditional paradigms and make a contribution to current debates on the role of experts in their links with local communities.
