Abstract

The civil-military dictatorship, headed by General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte, encouraged a series of changes at the political and the economic level. That changes process had its own regional expressions; an example of that, was the creation, after the 1973's Putsch and under the implementation of the neoliberalism, of the Banco de Fomento Regional del Bío-Bío, which was constituted in one of main projects of the economic elite of the "Gran Concepción", being also endorsed and supported by the political and military authorities of the period. However, over the years and in the midst of the economic crisis, experienced by the country by the year 1982, the Banco de Fomento was one of the most affected, going to become one of the many financial institutions that, eventually, disappeared.
