Abstract

This article explores the links between the compulsory evictions implemented in the shantytowns located in the north of the city of Buenos Aires and the real estate market, under the dictatorial regime that governed Argentina between 1976 and 1983. To do so, we will apply the category of forced internal displacement (DFI) to the processes named by the official discourse of the period as eradications. Along with all of the above, the links between these measures and the transformations promoted by the State in terms of speculation on urban land are investigated, to understand why the evictions were particularly intense in the north of the city, where the areas of greatest potential value. In this way, the deployment of violence on the space of the villas had the objective of guaranteeing profitability for future investors.
