Development and family charactenstics of children aged 2-3 attending to preschool education

Abstract

This paper focuses on family characteristics of 214 children aged 22 to 39 months attending the first level of preschool education and their relationships with psychomotor development. Educational quality of home environment is mostly adequate. Child development was measured twice, at the beginning and at the end of the school year, displaying the lowest score on the second measurement: an increment from 5 to 8% was detected in children under the norm. In terms of area, coordination was the greatest level of development while the lowest was language-related. Girls showed at the second measurement a significant lower development than boys did did. Main variables influencing children development were parent's education and occupation, and home educational quality.
