Abstract

This article evaluates the impact of 18-O on the perception of democracy in students from a school in the Biobío region. The modifications in citizenship education evidenced the relevance that socio-political events have in it (e.g. social movements, corruption cases). Based on the above, it was decided to study the impact of the “Social Outbreak” on concepts and attitudes around democracy. An adaptation of a scale that allows characterizing them in previous/subsequent moments was applied, showing significant impacts on the perception of Chilean democracy, evidencing: (1) A decrease in trust in institutions, the media and the national account and (2) an increase in values democratic and construction of direct citizenship. The results are discussed considering the evidence in the area and its relevance to be processed by future implementations in citizenship education.
