Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of virtual exchange experiences using the COIL methodology on the self-perception of intercultural competence among students at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP). A mixedmethods approach was employed. Data were collected through surveys administered to students before and after participating in the COIL program and were supplemented by interviews with involved faculty members. The results showed a significant increase in the self-perception of intercultural competence among the students who participated in the program. The students highlighted improvements in their intercultural communication skills and their ability to collaborate in multicultural teams. The COIL methodology has a positive impact on students’ self-perception of intercultural competence. Its integration into the academic curriculum is recommended to promote a more global and inclusive education.
