The University Choice Construct: A Bibliometric Analysis with Bibliometrix
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research analyzes the existing publications on the construct “University Choice” by students, using the Web of Science database during 1991-2023, with the search equation: “Choice” and “University” and Student”, resulting in 1078 documents analyzed with the Bibliometrix software. The publications are concentrated in the last 13 years, identifying a network of authors, mainly from the United Kingdom and the United States, who have made significant contributions in this field. The main journals publishing in this line are “Higher Education”, “Economics of Education Review” and “Studies in Higher Education”. Two main approaches have been identified: one focused on the decisional process and the other on academic achievement. It is expected that future research will deepen the understanding of the phenomenon using this systematic review and thus contribute to improve university policies by developing more effective and informed student orientation programs, both in Chile and internationally.
